The young black Rafael Padilha (Omar Sy) was born in Cuba in 1868 and was sold as a child. Years later he manages to escape and is found on the docks by a clown who puts in your presentations. Then Padilha is now known as Chocolat, becoming the first black circus artist in France, a great success in the late nineteenth century.
